A woman sarpanch delivered a speech in fluent English at an event in Rajasthan’s Barmer where IAS officer Tina Dabi was invited as a chief guest. Dabi, who was appointed as the District Collector of Barmer earlier this month, applauded Sonu Kanwar for her speech as seen in a video that has gone viral on social media.
The village head was speaking at the Jal Mahotsav event that was held in Barmer’s Jalipa village.
Dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire, Kanwar delivered her speech on stage as she said, “I am very glad to be a part of this day. First of all, I welcome our collector, Tina ma’am. It is an honour.”
Kanwar also spoke about water conversation during her speech as Dabi was simply impressed and cheered for her.

Tina Dabi topped the UPSC examination in her first attempt in 2015, achieving the first rank at just 22. She received her first posting as District Collector in Jaisalmer, and has now been given the command of Barmer, near the Indo-Pak border.
The development came on September 6 as the Rajasthan government, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, rejigged the state’s administrative machinery, transferring 108 officers.
Tina Dabi got married to IAS officer Pradeep Gawande in April 2022. He has now been appointed the District Collector of Jalore, a neighbouring district to Barmer, approximately 150 kilometres away.
