    Description

    Authentic Inupiat Caribou Skin Masks.
    This pair of authentic Inupiat caribou skin masks were made in the remote village of Anaktuvuk Pass prior to 1963, at which time I purchased them directly from a member of the village when I was there. Residents of Anaktuvuk Pass were among the last group of Inupiat to give up a nomadic lifestyle and erect a permanent village. They chose this location because of the caribou migration through the pass. In addition to the faces made of caribou skin, the ruffs are made from wolf pelts taken by local hunters. These masks are in beautiful condition and unique in both their authenticity and the knowledge of their origin.
